Re-Elect Christine Krolik for Hillsborough City Council
My husband, Jeff, and I are 29-year residents of Hillsborough. Our sons, John and Will, went to North and Crocker Schools. Among my volunteer positions for the Hillsborough Schools, I was Co-chair of Hillsborough Concours (now HSF Events) and Co-chair of the Hillsborough School District Bond Campaign in 2002. I was named Hillsborough Citizen of the Year in 2009.
I previously served on the Hillsborough City Council from 2004-2012 and was Mayor from 2008-2010. I returned to the Council in 2020 and am the current Mayor of Hillsborough. I helped plan and oversee the Hillsborough Centennial celebration, and began the annual Memorial Day Parade. As a Councilmember, I have served as Communications Commissioner, Public Works Commissioner and Building & Planning Commissioner, was on the Hillsborough Recreation Board and am liaison to the Hillsborough Beautification Foundation. I began Hillsborough Neighborhood Network (HNN) to promote disaster preparedness and community cohesiveness.
I have helped lead the Town through the Housing Element process, and with resident input and support, Hillsborough has a certified plan that satisfies the state mandate without rezoning any private property and with minimum impact on the character of the Town. Responding to residents’ requests, Council recently enacted a ban on gas-powered leaf blowers for a quieter and healthier Hillsborough. Council has kept the Town on solid financial footing, retaining the stellar AAA+ bond rating.
As a community volunteer, I have served on the Shelter Network/LifeMoves Board of Directors (Chair 2012 - 2014). I was on the Hillbarn Theatre Board (Chair 2009-2012) and received the BRAVO Award in 2010. I still volunteer at the LifeMoves Family Crossroads site in Daly City.
Professionally, my background was in theatre, where I worked as actor, director and teacher, and I have been singing with Swing Set for over 25 years. From 2004 – 2009 I worked as Finance Director for then State Senator/Congresswoman Jackie Speier.
We are fortunate to have knowledgeable and engaged residents and I appreciate hearing from and collaborating with everyone. In facing the challenges ahead, I am committed to maintaining our beautiful Town’s unique quality-of-life. I consider it a privilege to serve and respectfully ask for your vote.
Key reasons that I am running for re-election:
Service — I truly enjoy both the public and the service part of public service. I am inspired to do everything I can to keep Hillsborough an ideal place to live.
Collaboration — My approach to problem-solving begins with listening, responding and collaborating with our residents to develop common-sense solutions.
Fiscal Responsibility — I pledge to continue to deliver first class services to our residents while maintaining a balanced budget and responsible fiscal reserves.
Public Safety — From preventing burglaries to wildfires, it is essential that our police and fire services remain best-in-class. We will continue to educate residents on the dangers of cybercrime and scams, as they are threats to our residents’ long-term financial security.
Resident Support — We have recently held special Town Hall sessions on residents’ concerns such as the Homeowner’s Insurance Crisis and Substance Abuse Prevention, and have an upcoming one on Staying Safe from Burglary and Scams. The Bike & Pedestrian Safety Plan is underway, we are working with PG&E to prevent power outages, and exploring communication enhancement services.
Housing Element Projects — We have begun the community engagement process for implementing the approved Housing Element. The first priority in developing those plans is to continue to listen and respond to residents. I remain committed to no rezoning of private property.
Vision for the Future — Hillsborough is special place to live. I am dedicated to maintaining our unique character and keeping Hillsborough safe, keeping Hillsborough beautiful and keeping Hillsborough responsive to our residents.
Rules of the Road — Promoting community in every sense of the word is my core value.
